We'll explore together over 3 days, enjoy the luxury of our central 4* hotel in the heart of the city and join the legendary Hogmanay street party in prime position to watch the iconic midnight firework display over Edinburgh Castle!

OUR ITINERARY

Hogmanay is the Scottish word for New Year’s Eve, regarded as the most important Scottish holiday. Christmas was virtually banned in Scotland for around 400 years so, until the 1950s many Scots worked over Christmas and celebrated their winter solstice holiday at New Year. So simply put, the Scots know how to do NYE right!

The highlight of Hogmanay is a massive outdoor street party beneath the iconic Edinburgh Castle, which is illuminated with a show stopping midnight fireworks display, followed by thousands of revellers joining hands to sing 'Auld Lang Syne' before continuing to party into the wee hours!

Our home for 3 days in this extremely sought after, prime Edinburgh location, just a short walk away from Edinburgh Castle, the city's main sights and different areas to explore, and the entrance to the Hogmanay street party, is absolutely key to this whole trip, and we can't hold the rooms forever, so make sure you book ASAP to secure your place with us, and so we can book your Hogmanay street party ticket before it sells out, as it does every year!

I'll personally be hosting this trip and making sure you have an amazing time with other women in our community, many of who have never met. It's my job to make us all feel comfy and like a new group of friends from as soon as we meet, which I have a lot of experience in doing on all of our overseas group holidays that I run, so please don't worry about not knowing anyone yet at all. That's how all of our Travel Queens start off!

DAY 1 - TUES 30 DEC - MEET YOUR GROUP & EXPLORE EDINBURGH!

Travel to Edinburgh in the morning and by early afternoon meet us at our 4* luxury hotel in the heart of the city.

I'll welcome you all in the hotel bar first and introduce you to your new Hogmanay buddies, then we'll get checked into our fabulously Scottish inspired rooms (picture tartan decor and scenes of the city and Scottish countryside) before heading out to explore!

Today we'll head to the most famous part of Edinburgh, the ancient cobbled streets of the Royal Mile that leads up to the imposing Edinburgh Castle and the colourful, lively Grassmarket area. I know this city very well (my surname used to be MacAngus you know!) and will take you on a guided walk to share with you the main sights, as well as the quirky little nooks and crannies, hidden alleyways and weird and wonderful stories (including some Harry Potter claims to fame) that make it even more special!

We'll end the day with one of the most important things to do in Edinburgh; a cosy night in one of the many historic Scottish pubs enjoying hearty local food and lively music from local folk bands!

DAY 2 - WEDS 31 DECEMBER - HOGMANAY NYE CELEBRATIONS!

We'll start today with breakfast at a gorgeous storybook themed restaurant, set in the former home of 'Wind in the Willows' Edinburgh-born author, Kenneth Graeme. I'll then take us on an easy walk to the best viewpoint of the whole city at Calton Hill, home to the City Observatory and various monuments, including the Scottish National Monument, modelled on Athens' famous Parthenon. The stone silhouettes against the backdrop of the hills and sweeping city views are stunning, and put in context the amazing location where we'll be celebrating New Year's Eve!

Afterwards, enjoy free time for shopping, exploring, more famous Edinburgh pubs, or head back to our hotel to chill. Early evening we'll meet there ready for the night, and head to a gorgeous bar for some pre-street party cocktails, close to where we'll enter the party from 8pm. The plan is to be in the midst of the world famous Hogmanay street party, packed with live music, parades and food and drink stalls, for the evening and build up to the midnight fireworks (tickets are included in the cost), but this bar's NYE party will be our back up plan, just in case of any bad weather, and of course as a possible after party!

DAY 3 - THURS 1 JANUARY 2026 - NEW YEAR'S DAY!

You might need a lie in today so we'll just meet in reception to check out by 11am! Unless you need to head off home right away, we'll take a little time to celebrate New Year's Day! First we'll head for a delicious Scottish breakfast, then I have another part of the city to share with you, often overlooked by visitors.

An easy walk takes us to the charming cobbled streets and colourful buildings of Dean Village on the bank of the Water of Leith river, and feels like stepping into a pretty period drama film set! We'll walk through the hamlet once home to century-old mills and bakers, over picturesque bridges and to the St Bernard's Well and natural springs, that locals believed had magical healing powers.

Here I’ll share a special little New Year ceremony with you, inspired by a 'letting go' ritual I learned in Bali. As an alternative to the pressures of setting New Year's Resolutions, this is about acknowledging what you're ready to let go of and leave behind in 2025 as part of looking forward to the year ahead. Don't worry, it won’t involve getting wet! It can be done privately in your mind, or shared out loud if you want to and is such a simple thing, but something people often find very therapeutic and is a lovely way to round off our New Year break together, before we say goodbye, or hopefully... see you on the next adventure!

What's included?

Two night stay at a luxury 4* hotel in a sought after Edinburgh city centre location, in a shared twin/triple/king + sofa bed room, over prime New Year's Eve and New Year's Day holidays. If you would like to upgrade to a private room to yourself please get in touch so I can check availability and the price.
Tickets to Edinburgh Hogmanay official street party for access to all street performances, live music, food and drink stalls and prime position for watching the midnight fireworks display over Edinburgh Castle.
Tickets to Tigerlily NYE Hogmanay Party (our back up plan in case of any bad weather and access after street party ends).
Three guided walks exploring the Royal Mile, Grassmarket, Calton Hill and Dean Village areas and to the best street party gate entrance closest to our hotel.
Reservations made in advance at fantastic highly recommended/personally discovered city centre bars, pubs and restaurants for meals and drinks.

Participation in a fully hosted group experience with a group leader to organise everything in the run up to and during the trip, to make sure you have an amazing time!

What isn't included?

Your return travel to and from our hotel in Edinburgh, parking at £10 per night at the hotel (limited availability) or in the local area, all meals and drinks.

Who is this mini break for?

This break is for women only, aged 25-59, with a good level of health and fitness; as is the case for all of our group trips.

Is it ok for me to come on my own without knowing anyone?

Yes absolutely, that's how almost all of the women who join us start off, without knowing anybody else! That's why I created Travel Queen, to bring you all together and create amazing group experiences where those first time nerves quickly melt away and before you know it you're having a fabulous time and making new friends for life! An experienced group leader is a key part of making this happen and this mini break will be run personally by myself (Travel Queen owner, Mel, here! 👋)

It's my job to make us all feel comfy and like a new group of friends from as soon as we meet, which I have a lot of experience in doing on all of our overseas group holidays that I run! I'll pair people up to share rooms which is also all part of the group experience, and I've been told I'm pretty good at matching people up who get along too. So please don't worry about not knowing anyone yet at all, you're in safe hands! ☺️

How do I book?

You can book using the button below to pay the deposit of £295 and I recommend booking as soon as possible so we can secure your Hogmanay street party ticket right away, as these have been known to sell out far in advance! The remaining balance then needs to be paid by 30 November. Payments are non-refundable if you decide to cancel but, of course if we had to cancel for any reason (which we do not plan to do!), we would provide a full refund. You must have personal travel insurance in place as you would for any holiday and this should cover you if you need to cancel due to any personal reasons such as health.
