Itinerary below

Join us for the ultimate winter wonderland escape soaking up the festive vibes of two of Germany's incredible destinations over one fun and relaxation filled weekend! Stay close to Munich’s famous Marienplatz, where you can immerse yourself in the festive magic of the Christmas markets, traditional Bavarian bars and legendary beer hall, before escaping to the snow-capped peaks of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and our gorgeous spa hotel to surround yourself with some of the most breathtaking, snowy mountain ranges in the world, the super cute fairytale village and incredible mountain views over four different countries from the soaring Zugspitze Mountain summit!

OUR ITINERARY

DAY 1 - FRI 11 DEC - MEET YOUR GROUP & EXPLORE MUNICH!

Welcome to Munich! Our festive getaway kicks off today and there are excellent morning flights available (see FAQs below for recommended times) that arrive from both Manchester and London so you can maximise your time to dive straight into the holiday magic... AND a bonus for this weekend trip; you only need one weekday off work!

We'll start our mini adventure by exploring the world-famous Marienplatz square, the vibrant heart of beautiful Munich. As the home of the original German Christmas market, this is where they truly do these markets right. We’ll have the whole afternoon to wander the stalls, sample traditional festive snacks and warm up with our first steaming mug of authentic Glühwein.

After taking in the sights, we'll check into our super central hotel, just a short walk from the square, to unpack and freshen up. As evening falls and Munich becomes even more magical, we'll head back out into the glowing market lights before making our way to a legendary, historic Bavarian beer hall. There, we'll feast on classic German delights like bratwurst and giant pretzels, raise a glass to the sounds of a live brass band, and raise a toast to getting to know your new travel buddies!

DAY 2 - SAT 12 DEC - ESCAPE TO THE FAIRYTALE VILLAGE OF GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN & MOUNT ZUGSPITZE SUMMIT!

Today we escape even deeper into a true winter wonderland as we take a scenic train ride to the fairytale town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen! Nestled right at the foot of the Alps, you will have time to explore this incredibly cute Bavarian village and wander through their own charming Christmas markets.

The highlight of our day takes us right into those stunning snowy mountains that form the town's gorgeous backdrop, when we board a traditional, historic cogwheel train to journey high up into snowy paradise! Up here, you'll be completely surrounded by breathtaking alpine views, with no skiing or intense physical activity required! But, if you fancy a laugh, you can have a go at tobogganing (zero skills needed!)

For the ultimate views, we'll take the spectacular cable car journey up to the absolute summit of Mount Zugspitze to gaze out over the snow-capped peaks of four different countries at once. After an unforgettable mountain escape, we'll head back down to warm up back at our gorgeous spa hotel, complete with heated pool, loungers, a Roman steam room, Finnish sauna, and massages and beauty treatments available in the spa... and roaring fires in the bar when we're done.

In the evening we'll walk into the winter village as its Christmas spirit truly comes to life for an evening of festive wandering and pure German holiday magic.

DAY 3 - SUN 13 DEC - FREE TIME & TRAVEL BACK TO MUNICH TO FLY HOME!

Wake up to a delicious buffet breakfast in our cosy hotel restaurant then enjoy a lounge by the fire, or maybe a trip back to our gorgeous spa pool, steam and sauna rooms.

We recommend booking a flight home no earlier than 2pm onwards, to allow time to travel to the airport by bus or train (just over two hours - see FAQs for more detail below). We'll all just travel back to Munich Airport when we're ready and depending on the flights everyone has booked, so if you want to take your time you can enjoy your day and soak up more winter wonderland (or spa time!), or if you've got to get back, feel free to set off earlier. Please make sure you factor in available bus and train departure times and journey times (see below).

We will have our usual Facebook group for this trip, just for all the ladies booked on, so you can see which airports others will be travelling from and plan to travel out and back together if you like.

Either way, you'll return home full of real festive spirit to enjoy the last couple of weeks before the big day itself :-)

FAQS & WHAT'S INCLUDED

What's included?

  • One night stay on Friday 11 December 2026 in a shared twin room at a 3* hotel in the heart of Munich city centre, a short walk away from the famous Marienplatz Square, over the prime Christmas markets period. If you would like to enquire about upgrading to a private room to yourself please get in touch so I can check availability and the price.

  • One night stay on Saturday 12 December 2026 in a shared twin room at a gorgeous 4* alpine hotel in the fairytale town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen with stunning mountain views, complete with an indoor heated swimming pool and loungers, Finnish sauna and Roman steam room.

  • A fabulous hot and cold buffet breakfast is included at this hotel in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on the morning of Sunday 13 December.

  • Train journey (around 1 hour and 30 minutes) from Munich to Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

  • Ticket for journey on the historic cogwheel train from Garmisch-Partenkirchen village centre to the Zugspitze Mountain plateau.

  • Ticket from the Zugspitze Mountain plateau to ride the cable car to reach the Zugspitze Mountain summit.

  • Ticket to ride the (different) cable car from Zugspitze Mountain summit to Lake Eisbee.

  • Ticket for journey from Lake Eisbee back to Garmisch-Partenkirchen village centre on the cogwheel train.

  • Guided walks exploring Munich and Garmisch-Partenkirchen and afternoon trip to Zugspitze Mountain summit.

  • Participation in a fully hosted group experience with a group leader to organise everything in the run up to and during the trip, to make sure you have an amazing time!

  • Access to our private Facebook group set up for the lead up to the trip, so you can see and chat to other ladies booked on and so I can share tips and advice to help you prepare, share travel plans and arrange to travel together if you like, and so we can count down and get excited together!

  • A pre-trip virtual video meet up, so you can get to know me and other ladies booked on just before we go, ask me any questions, run through travel plans and meet others on the same flights as you.

  • Access to a private WhatsApp group just for the ladies booked onto the trip that I'll set up just before the trip, so you can message me and others during your journey to Munich and make arrangements with anyone travelling on the same flights as you, share photos and keep in touch throughout the trip, and afterwards with your new friends when you've returned back home!

What isn't included?

Your flights into and out of Munich and airport transfers are not included in the trip price. As people will be arriving and departing on different flights, to give you flexibility to travel at times that suit you (please see arrival and departure time advice below), and because we can't book these journeys in advance for you in case of any delays to your flights, the train or bus travel from Munich Airport to the centre of Munich on your arrival and from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Munich Airport for your flight home, is not included.

You will need to pay for these journeys during the trip and depending on your flight times and those of others in the group, you may need to travel on these journeys by yourself, but you will more than likely be able to travel at the same time as others in the group. You can use our private Facebook group during the lead up to the trip to share travel plans with others, meet them virtually on our pre-trip video chat and use our WhatsApp group to communicate during your journeys. We recommend that you first book your place on the trip to secure this before booking any flights, then when we send your booking confirmation we will also send the link to join the Facebook group, so you will be able to see which flights others might have already booked from which airports, before you decide which flights to book for yourself.

The cost of all meals and drinks is not included, with the exception of the buffet breakfast at our hotel in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, which is included. Breakfast at our hotel in Munich is not included as standard but is available at a rate of 13.90 Euro per person.

Any treatments in the spa at our hotel in Garmisch-Partenkirchen are an additional cost.

What are the names of the train and bus stations, what are the journey times and how much are the journeys from and to Munich Airport?

The name of the train station at Munich Airport is München Flughafen Terminal in German, and Munich Airport Terminal in English. The Munich city centre train station name is München Hauptbahnhof in German (commonly abbreviated as München/Munich Hbf) and Munich Central Station in English. The journey time from Munich Airport Terminal to Munich Central Station takes around 40 minutes and costs around 15 Euro (approximately £13). There are frequent trains throughout the day, departing roughly every 10 minutes and you can just get your ticket at the station on the day, when you know which train you want to take.

You can also travel by bus on the Lufthansa Express Bus directly from Munich Airport to Munich Central Station and there are departures every 20 minutes. Find out more here: https://www.airportbus-muenchen.de/en

The name of the train station in Garmisch-Partenkirchen is simply Garmisch-Partenkirchen Station or Bahnhof Garmisch-Partenkirchen in German. The journey time to Munich Airport takes around 2 hours and between 10 to 20 minutes with one change, usually at Munich Central Station, at around 30 Euro (approximately £26). You can book this train ticket in advance online at www.thetrainline.com from around mid October. It is a 13 minute walk to the train station from our hotel in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

You can also travel by bus directly from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Munich Airport, with no change required and a journey time of around 2 hours and 10 to 25 minutes. The available departure times of buses (at the time of writing this, which may change due to availability) are 08.20, 10.25, 12.50, 16.55, 18.25 and 19.00. Tickets can be booked now at www.flixbus.co.uk and prices are currently from £11.49 to £12.49 per person.

Which flights and times do I need to book for this trip?

We recommend booking a flight that arrives in Munich on Friday 11 December by mid morning, so you can make the most of your day in Munich and have lots of time to enjoy everything we have planned on Day 1. There are currently (at the time of writing this, which may change due to availability) flights from Manchester that depart at 7am with Easyjet and arrive in Munich by 10.05am, or with Lufthansa that depart Manchester at 7.15am and arrive in Munich by 10.15am. From London Heathrow, there is a flight that departs at 6.35am and arrives in Munich by 9.25am.

On Sunday 13 December, we recommend booking a flight that departs Munich no earlier than 2pm, to give you time to travel back from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Munich Airport, as the earliest direct bus you can currently book departs at 8.50am, takes 2 hours and 25 minutes and arrives at Munich Airport at 11.15am, allowing just under 3 hours before a 2pm flight time. You may also like to consider a later flight, to allow more time and so that you can enjoy a more leisurely morning at our hotel, take your time having breakfast and maybe use the pool and spa before checking out by 12pm, and having a little more time to explore Garmisch-Partenkirchen. There are flights that depart Munich at 9.30pm back to Manchester and a range of departures back to London Heathrow from 5.35pm to 9.55pm.

Please do check the available flight times as they may change. The Skyscanner flight comparison website is helpful for comparing available flights from different airlines and being able to search by the preferred arrival and departure times.

How and where will we meet at the start of the trip in Munich?

Once bookings have closed and we have our full group and you have all provided your flight information and times of arrival into Munich, we will let you know the time, place and arrangements for meeting up with me and the rest of the group in Munich. Don't worry, we are used to arranging this for all of our group trips and we provide very detailed information in advance to make it very clear, and we will be in touch with you during your arrival to make sure everything goes smoothly!

How can I find out if anyone else on the trip will be travelling from the same airport and on the same flights as me, so we can maybe travel together?

You can use our private Facebook group during the lead up to the trip as I encourage all the ladies booked on to share which airport they will be travelling from (for example, Manchester or London in the UK) and if they have already booked their flights, which specific ones they have booked, so that others can book the same if they would like to travel together. This is completely optional, but most people are up for travelling together and meeting at the airport, and we usually have a range of people travelling from either Manchester or London in the UK, and sometimes from other regional UK airports and occasionally from outside of the UK too.

You can then virtually meet other members of the group during our pre-trip video chat, that I hold just before the trip, so you know who to look out for if they are on the same flight as you, or if you want to travel on the same train from or to the airport in Germany. You can also use our WhatsApp group that I set up just before the trip too, to communicate during your journeys.

Who is this mini break for?

This break is for women only, aged 25-59, with a good level of health and fitness required for walking and carrying your own luggage; as is the case for all of our group trips.

Is it ok for me to come on my own without knowing anyone?

Yes absolutely, that's how almost all of the women who join us start off, without knowing anybody else! That's why I created Travel Queen, to bring you all together and create amazing group experiences where those first time nerves quickly melt away and before you know it you're having a fabulous time and making new friends for life! An experienced group leader is a key part of making this happen and this mini break will be run personally by myself (Travel Queen owner, Mel, here! 👋)

It's my job to make us all feel comfortable and like a new group of friends from as soon as we meet, which I have a lot of experience in doing on all of our group holidays that I run! I'll pair people up to share rooms which is also all part of the group experience, and I've been told I'm pretty good at matching people up too. So please don't worry about not knowing anyone yet at all, you're in safe hands! ☺️

How do I book?

You can book using the button below to pay the deposit of £295 and I recommend booking as soon as possible so you can then also book your flights, as the price will only increase the closer it gets to Christmas, and especially as Munich is a very popular place to visit for the Christmas markets at this time! The remaining balance needs to be paid 6 weeks before departure.

Payments are non-refundable if you decide to cancel but, of course if we had to cancel for any reason (which we do not plan to do!), we would provide a full refund. You must have personal travel insurance in place as you would for any holiday and this should cover your booking and your flights and we advise that you take this out immediately after booking, so you have cover right away. For any other further booking terms and conditions, our standard terms will apply, which can be read here.

If you have any questions at all or would just like a chat about what to expect, please get in touch! You can send a message to me through the website chat, call me on 07399 303859 or email mel@travel-queen.co.uk.

I can't wait to welcome any new ladies to your first Travel Queen experience and to catch up with any of our existing Travel Queens on this fab little trip! 😀🎉
